Chaise23: All Things Shiny and Good

I was mildly underwhelmed as I was buzzed into 40 East 23rd street and headed up the dark stairwell to Chaise23’s location on the third floor. Then I was mildly weirded out when I couldn’t actually get inside the studio because the door was locked, there was no buzzer and I had to bang and wait for someone to answer. And then I was mildly amazed when the door opened to reveal a beautiful, state of the art, shiny, super-smelling expanse of wonderfulness. Chaise23 – you are a reminder to never judge a studio by its building exterior....  [More]

Looking for a Relaxing and Rejuvenating Haven? Look no Further.

I came to Studio Anya craving a serene (but still challenging) workout. I've been feeling a bit burnt out lately by the speed of the city, rude people, crowded fitness classes, loud music and screaming instructors. Don't get me wrong, I actually love all of this (other than the rude people) but sometimes I just need a reset button. Studio Anya is that button! ...  [More]

I. Love. This. Place.

This review is long overdue for release. Exceed's studio is a total gem that makes me jealous not to live on the Upper East Side (and there are VERY few things that ever make me consider such a thing.) No offense to all of my UES pals. I live in a West Village bubble that is only popped in the name of Fitness....  [More]

Crunch Christopher: This Gym's Seen Better Days

Kinda grungy with a weird setup, but much less crowded than the others - a neighborhood gym for people who aren't looking for all that jazz. I gave it a 2 because I personally wouldn't go back, but if it's convenient, there's nothing egregiously wrong with it - it's just nothing to write home about. Also, the sign kind at the entrance kind of looks like the Dunkin' Donuts font, which is ironic....  [More]

David Barton Gym Chelsea: The Next Frontier for the Laydeez

Reflective surfaces! Skulls! Nice outfits and dim lighting! Am I talking about a bar? No, it’s David Barton Gym in Chelsea (you can’t fault the confusion, DB periodically hires a DJ and serves vodka shots on the premises). Gotta say, I developed quite the crush on this place once I got over my timidity....  [More]
