Oh When the Saints... Go Dancing In...
I live in Boston - like the city. Not "but we have the same mayor!" parts of Boston like Allston or Brighton.
So, upon learning that Dancefit Studios was in Brookline, I did a little Google-mapping and hopped on the C line. I figured I'd find it easily enough...
Welp, folks, I walked past it, realized the error of my ways, back-tracked, and I stumbled upon a church (cue: angels’ melodious singing)
Here I Am…:
Decorating the lawn of said church, I found a mythical looking mushroom, a little ceramic house in which I can only assume fairies live, and a sign directing me to DanceFIT studios - on the second floor of God's house. Hmm.
Let's reassess:
I look like a female Eminem with my black puffy coat, hoodie, and big headphones. Sorry, Big Guy. At this moment, a priest wearing traditionally priest-y attire walks past me and waves hello to "Dolores," also heading into the church. What have I gotten myself into?
I follow the signs to Dancefit Studio - past a little preschool/daycare, past a bulletin board featuring a sign with a checklist about whether being an altar boy is right for me (Number Two: "You would like to serve in a very quiet, but important way"). I climb up the stairs, reaching my destination.
The Mystery Uncovered:
Surprise!
Nope, it’s not Quasimodo, or an ancient crypt, but a nice, surprisingly large dance floor. Mirrors line the front wall, cupboards hold weights and mats, and ballet bars are pushed against the back wall.
Look, it's nothing special. It's a room. And, you can dance in that room (if you want to). But, after taking a class there, WHO. CARES. You don't need anything else. You aren't paying for some schmancy palace with fawning subjects. You are paying for classes that will seriously kick your butt. Honestly, I've warmed up to the whole dancing in Jesus' house thing. It feels secret, intimate and quirky. God wants you to dance.
