Full Body with Shane Collins @ Barry's Bootcamp
5...4...3...2...1...I'm dead

by kaffysprints on July 8, 2013

I signed up for this class thinking that Noah was going to teach it.  I was a little disappointed as I was up for a Noah ass kicking after indulging a bit too much over the holiday weekend.  However, I shouldn't have worried because Shane, who I think teaches in the London location, delivered the ass kicking that I craved.

His format was different than what I have experienced to date at Barry's.  It was a 5-4-3-2-1 workout, which was 5 minutes on the treadmill, 5 minutes of floor, 4 minutes treadmill, 4 minutes on the floor...you get the idea.  The intensity of the workout was high and by the end of class, I thought I was going to die.
I liked Shane. He walked around before class, introduced himself and asked your name.  Gave everyone a slap on the back, like we were all mates already.  His cues were good and he was very enthusiastic and energetic.
Some room for improvement: he told us to pick up middle-heavy weights but didn't give any guidance on what that should be.  I ended up picking up heavier weights and having to switch them out, which was a little annoying since the floor sections were so short.  I saw several people, myself included, whose form suffered a bit because the weights were too heavy, so it would have been nice for him to suggest to move down or bring over a lighter set of weights.  Also, he ran out of class afterwards and it would have been nice to say goodbye to him as we left.
Also, while I got a good workout, I'm not a huge fan of the 5-4-3-2-1 format as I think that too much workout time is lost in the transitions.  Only 15 minutes total on the treadmill and 15 minutes total of floor? This gal wants more!
Really liked Shane and hope to see him stateside again.

just a small note, it was 6-5-4-3-2-1 so a little longer on treadmills than you thought. you wanted more??? yikes?? good review though

kiki - yes! You are correct - it was a 6-5-4-3-2-1 workout. I didn't want more at the end but was puzzled because I thought I only got 15 minutes! Guess I was more tired than I thought and forgot the first rotation!
